Diplomatic relations between Norway and Burundi were established 20.12.2002. The Norwegian Ambassador accredited to Burundi is resident in Uganda. Norway established an Embassy Section in Bujumbura in May 2007, which is administered by the Norwegian Embassy in Kampala

Since the democratic elections in Burundi in 2005 and the increased stability following the transition from a situation of armed conflict towards relative peace, Norway has strengthened its commitment to Burundi in order to support the peace process in the country.
