Welcome to the website of the Norwegian Embassy in Kampala. The site is designed to provide you with information about Norway, Norway’s cooperation with Uganda, as well as a source of information for Norwegian citizens who live in Uganda, or want to come as visitors. I hope you are able to find the information you are looking for.
Bilateral relations between Norway and Uganda are excellent and go back as far as the 1960’s, when Uganda was one of the first main partner countries for Norwegian development cooperation. The Norwegian Peace Corps sent their first personnel in January 1963.
Relations were however severed under Idi Amin’s regime in the 70’s, but were revived in the 1980’s.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kampala was established in late 1996, and is today located in a new building on Nakasero Hill. The annual level of cooperation with Uganda is approx. 55 mill USD, of which some 10 million dollars is budget support to the Ugandan government. Our main priority areas are Energy, Environment/ Natural Resources/Climate, Good Governance and Human Rights, Gender and Northern Uganda/Peace and Reconciliation.
