Mandag ettermiddag ble tre landsbyer i Bududa distriktet, ikke langt fra Mbale rammet av jordras. Rundt 80 personer er bekreftet omkommet og 400 er savnet. Så vidt ambassaden er kjent med er ingen nordmenn rammet. Ambassaden har vært i kontakt med de nordmenn som er registrert bosatt i området.

Nairobi, 15 February 2010: The UN-HABITAT Urban Youth Fund will this year provide one million dollars to projects led by young people aged 15-32 years who are piloting innovative approaches to employment, good governance, shelter and secure tenure. Small development initiatives are eligible for grants of up to $5,000, while larger projects may be able to secure up to $25,000.

On 14 September, the Labour Party, Socialist Left Party and Centre Party received the majority of votes in the national election, giving them a mandate to govern for another four-year period. “We will focus on securing jobs, renewing and improving the welfare society, and playing an active role in climate issues,” says Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

Norwegian professor Endre Lillethun was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science at the Makerere University graduation ceremony on Monday the 18th of January. Professor Lillethun is a professor at the University of Bergen where he teaches physics, he has over 130 scientific publications.

The world’s first full-scale floating wind turbine – known as Hywind – was officially opened on 8 September off the southwest coast of Norway. “This is an important step towards creating a new Norwegian energy industry at sea,” declared Norway’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Riis-Johansen.
