The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kampala in conjunction with NORFUND office in Nairobi Kenya are proposing to organize a delegation of Norwegian Businesses to Rwanda with the aim of offering Norwegian companies an opportunity to explore the various business opportunities that are available in Rwanda.

“If one man can show so much hatred, imagine how much love we can show together.” So said a young woman who lost friends on the island of Utøya during the attacks of Friday 22 July. The quote has been widely embraced by survivors, families and political leaders in Norway.

On Friday October 1 representatives from the Norwegian Embassy in Kampala, including the Ambassador, were present at the closing session of a week long workshop organised by Save the Children in Seeta, just outside of Kampala. They experienced an afternoon somewhat different from what they are used to – in the enjoyable company of a group of vocal, dedicated and creative young people.

On Thursday 14 October around 25 human rights defenders (HRD) organisations/individuals met with representatives from the EU Delegation, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherland and The Royal Norwegian Embassy to come with input to the work on adapting the EU Guidelines on human rights defenders to the Ugandan context. The work will result in the Local Implementation Strategy that will be launched and made public in due course

Norwegian Business Centre opened its doors in May this year. This is the result of an initiative from The Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) to set up an office for Norwegian start-up enterprises in Uganda. Norad and NHO have covered the initial cost, but the companies will be covering the operational cost from 2011. The initiative is closely linked to NHOs private sector program that has promoted business opportunities in Uganda to Norwegian companies since 2003. At the moment, 5 companies have moved in. On July 22nd 2010, the Norwegian Embassy in Kampala was invited to the Launch of a maize milling machine in Amuru District, Northern Uganda, belonging to the Amuru Ribbe Ber Integrated Farmers Association. The launch was marked by dancing, singing and quite a few speeches as is the case in many parts of Uganda when marking a significant event in a community.

Norway condemns the terrorist actions in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, where at least 74 innocent people were killed and many others injured on Sunday evening. Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre commented: “We strongly condemn such terrorist actions.”

I forbindelse med den pågående valgprosessen i Burundi har det vært episoder med granatangrep i Bujumbura og politisk motiverte branner andre steder i landet. Ambassadeseksjonen anbefaler alle besøkende til Burundi å utvise aktsomhet og ikke bevege seg utendørs etter mørkets frambrudd med mindre det er strengt nødvendig.
